As a project we were asked to create a concept for a diagram to illustrate ‘the life and times’ of someone we admire.
And we chose Charlie Chaplin.
BRIEF
To create an awareness commemorating Charlie Chaplin's 122 years
iconic anniversary in 2012 for the British Film Institute (BFI).
To attract visitors to BFI for a month long showcase of Charlie Chaplin's
life and the re screen of his films.
To celebrate and remember the all time iconic figure in the film industry
prevalent during the silent film era.
PROPOSAL
Illustrate an overview of who Charlie Chaplin is in a nut shell as part
of the communication promotion and appeal to the audience.
Conceptualize Charlie Chaplin in a visual diagrammatic summation
of his life in three divided categories which are his relationships,
films and political influences.

IDEA
To apply the visual diagrams in a category layering transparency format
(as such of a radiogram) to visualize the idea of getting to know Charlie
Chaplin inside-out.
To install the diagrams in an outdoor setting for maximum exposure
to the audience.

This project was completed by the collaboration of four individuals. Each of us had individual tasks while the common decisions were taken together. Lilian searched for and prepared Charlie Chaplin's relationships, Giancarlo his politic life, Andreas visual aspects of the timeline and myself his filming career.
In the end, to see the whole timeline with its layers - each reflecting its producer's attitude and the common decisions we took together at the same time - showed me once more that collaboration is an effective way to make projects.
As a part of the team I could say that we could take this project to a further step by adding more layers reflecting other aspects of Charlie Chaplin's life. We could also use less text and ornamentation to make it clearer and easier to pass our message to people. Another suggestion I could make is to use the date of timeline more efficiently or to remove the dates all together in order to refine the project.
